Nigerian Exchange Group Essay Competition

The Essay Competition is one of the financial literacy and inclusion initiatives implemented by the Nigerian Exchange Group aimed bridging the gap in classroom learning with practical knowledge required for long-term personal financial planning. The competition’s overall goal is to develop a culture of wealth creation amongst our youth towards “Building a Financially Savvy Generation”. Now in its 19th year, the Competition has inspired over 108,000 young people in more than 22,000 schools across Nigeria.

Global Money Week

Every year, The Nigerian Exchange Group commemorates Global Money Week by hosting a series of educational programmes designed to help children understand the concepts of, saving, investing, creating livelihood, gaining employment, entrepreneurship and how money works.

The activities include sounding of the Closing Gong, excursions to the trading floor, interactive session with CEO, financial literacy fair and school outreach programmes.

X-Tours (School Excursions to the Exchange)

Over the years, the X-Tour has become a platform to stimulate students’ interest on the capital through an excursion to the premises of the Exchange to experience a ‘live’ view of operations and gain hands-on knowledge from capital market thought leaders. In addition, students participating in X-Tours are exposed to the concept of sustainable development, which was introduced to help students understand the correlation between the financial industry, economic growth and the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2019, over 9000 participants from over 50 schools participated in the X-Tours programme.

Adopt-A-School Initiative

The Nigerian Exchange Group supports efforts to increase access to free quality education for all. Therefore, to contribute to building a pipeline of future leaders who can contribute to sustainable development for future generations, the Group initiated the “Adopt-A-School” initiative, which was launched with the commissioning of a Learning and Development Centre donated to Oke-Odo Junior College, Abule-Egba, Lagos. The initiative is aimed at addressing the challenges experienced by schools in Nigeria through facility and process improvement, empowerment of teachers, and intellectual advancement of students.

Borno Education Intervention

In 2017, Nigerian Exchange Group built Maisandari Alamderi Model Nursery and Primary School to help Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno State to access quality education. The school was created as a model for primary education in the North-Eastern region.

Implemented in collaboration with the renowned Bridge International Academies, the initiative strengthens the delivery of quality education in Borno State by deploying technology and specialized educational content, which helps local teachers embrace new teaching techniques to transform the education outcomes for their pupils.

X-Lit

NGX X-Lit (Nigerian Exchange Financial Literacy) is a flagship initiative of the Nigerian Exchange Group designed to build financial capability and strengthen Nigeria’s investment culture. The programme equips diverse groups including NYSC members, military personnel, students, and informal sector participants with practical knowledge of the capital market, wealth creation, and accessible investment opportunities.

X-Lit focuses on deepening retail investor participation by breaking down complex financial concepts into simple, relatable ideas, while offering real-world insights for both short-term opportunities and long-term wealth building.

Corporate Challenge

The Corporate Challenge is an annual competitive and fun-filled 5 kilometre walk, run and jog competition aimed at increasing awareness for the fight against cancer in Nigeria as well as promoting company pride, teamwork, corporate wellness and networking.

The sixth edition of the Corporate Challenge, tagged “eRace Cancer 6.0”, which was held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Muri Okunola Park, Lagos, Nigeria had in attendance over 650 participants, including top executives from listed companies, Trading License Holder firms, non-listed companies and individuals from the general public. Free cancer screening (breast, cervical and prostate) was conducted for over 100 participants at the event.

Project Bloom

Project BLOOM (Bringing Life to Our Overlooked Minors), a partnership with the Lagos State Government and the Health Emergency Initiative (HEI). focuses on addressing severe child malnutrition in underserved communities. Project BLOOM combined life-saving interventions with caregiver education and community engagement reaching over 200 children and 180 mothers and caregivers across Yaba and Ajegunle. In Yaba, nearly 50% of children entered recovery within seven weeks, while in Ajegunle, over 50% achieved recovery milestones within four weeks, through similar support.
