Trading activity on Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) strengthened in the week ended Friday, 31 July 2026, as investors exchanged a total turnover of 5.119 billion shares worth ₦404.762 billion in 285,223 deals, compared with 4.433 billion shares valued at ₦306.143 billion in 255,589 deals recorded in the previous week.
The financial services industry led the activity chart with 3.918 billion shares valued at ₦271.428 billion traded in 123,514 deals, accounting for 76.55% and 67.06% of total equity turnover volume and value, respectively. The Services Industry followed with 203.203 million shares worth ₦3.061 billion in 18,333 deals, while the Consumer Goods Industry placed third with 191.283 million shares valued at ₦13.203 billion in 30,730 deals. Trading in the top three equities by volume, First Holdco Plc, AVA Capital Plc and Access Holdings Plc, amounted to 2.308 billion shares worth ₦224.773 billion in 27,359 deals, accounting for 45.09% and 55.53% of total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) moderated by 0.84% week-on-week to close the week at 245,283.68 points, while market capitalisation eased by 0.79% to ₦158.326 trillion, as investors booked profits following the market’s sustained rally. Notwithstanding the week’s decline, the ASI has returned an impressive 57.62% year-to-date. All other indices finished lower with the exception of the NGX Premium, NGX Insurance and NGX Sovereign Bond indices, which appreciated by 0.02%, 1.72% and 0.27%, respectively.
Market breadth closed negative, as thirty-three (33) equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than fifty-seven (57) in the previous week; fifty-six (56) equities depreciated, higher than thirty-eight (38) in the previous week, while fifty-eight (58) remained unchanged. Critical Minerals Financing Corp Plc led the gainers’ chart with a 22.78% appreciation to close at ₦3.88, followed by Coronation Infrastructure Fund (+20.92%) and Thomas Wyatt Nig. Plc (+20.66%), while Associated Bus Company Plc topped the decliners’ table, shedding 18.44% to close at ₦5.75.
The week also saw the admission of AVA Capital Plc to the Main Board of NGX through a listing by introduction. The entire issued and fully paid 5,000,000,000 ordinary shares of the Company were listed at ₦7.50 per share on Friday, 31 July 2026, under the trading symbol AVACAP. The stock recorded an active debut, closing among the week’s top ten price gainers with a 10.00% appreciation to ₦8.25 and featuring among the three most traded equities by volume.
Additionally, 15,000,000,000 ordinary shares of Fortis Global Insurance Plc were listed on the Daily Official List of NGX on Thursday, 30 July 2026, arising from the Company’s conversion of ₦12 billion debt to equity at ₦0.80 per share, increasing its total issued shares to 18,227,757,647 ordinary shares of 50 Kobo each.
Activity in other market segments also improved. In the Exchange Traded Products (ETP) segment, a total of 4.607 million units valued at ₦549.378 million were traded in 6,535 deals, compared with 2.559 million units valued at ₦447.340 million in 5,338 deals the previous week. The bond market recorded 305,669 units valued at ₦311.559 million in 53 deals, compared with 189,675 units valued at ₦185.844 million in the preceding week. During the week, the prices of Guinness Nigeria Plc and Nigerian Exchange Group Plc were adjusted for dividends of ₦7.00 and ₦1.30 per share, respectively.
